Memory Furnace
Defragment the memory furnace to admit requests of 8, then 4, then 8 bytes.
How to play · rules and tactics
Defragment the memory furnace to admit requests of 8, then 4, then 8 bytes. Sixteen memory slots run row by row; the narrow fifth column is only a label gutter. Each job must begin at an address divisible by its size and occupy one uninterrupted free block. Tap any occupied slot to select its whole job, then an empty address to relocate it. Moving costs heat equal to the job’s size; over 12 heat burns the furnace. Select Allocate next, then tap a valid free starting address to admit the waiting request at no heat cost. After the first admission, A and B finish and disappear. After the second, C and X finish. The final admission completes the workload. A red hot address mismatch is rejected without changing memory. Two Cool cycles remove 3 heat each, but cost a scheduler beat; the workload deadline is ten successful relocations, allocations or cools. Keyboard: Tab and Enter/Space operate buttons; R restarts.
